Copa Mundial Gets First Facelift

The Copa Mundial is a classic when it comes to soccer cleats; the best-selling boot in soccer history. Now, for the first time, it has undergone a stunning facelift with adidas releasing a limited number of special White Copa Mundials, available from Tuesday, October 1.

Since being released in 1982 for the FIFA World Cup in Spain, the Copa Mundial has sold over 10 million pairs and been worn by some of the game’s top players - including Franz Beckenbauer, Michel Platini, Zico & Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

With adidas founder Adi Dassler overseeing early development of the cleat, it was a huge technological advancement when first released. The kangaroo leather upper provides great touch on the ball and added leather on the heel improves durability and stability.

The outsole is constructed of dual-density polyurethane with molded studs. Those famous conical studs provide great traction on most soccer fields, but the Copa Mundial is best suited to play on firm to hard pitches. Its soft ground cousin, the adidas World Cup, is there for players who need more traction.

adidas keeps the Copa Mundial close to its heart and home. The legendary cleat is still produced in Scheinfeld, close to the adidas HQ in Germany. Even with all the hype surrounding modern cleat releases, this white edition of the classic adidas Copa Mundial will surely become a collector’s item.
